Restoring Chats and Messages for a Teams User to a OneDrive Account

You can restore personal chats, multiple user chats, meeting chats, and individual messages for a specific user to a location on a OneDrive account. Direct messages and Teams items cannot be selected together for one restore operation. You can only restore user items or Teams items in one operation. User data always restores in HTML format.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Office 365.

    The Office 365 Overview page appears.

  2. On the Apps tab, click the app.

    The Overview page of the app appears.

  3. To perform a restore, click Restore on the upper-right area of the page.

    The available Restore options tool appears.

  4. To restore individual users and their chats, select Restore users.

    The Select Users tab appears.

  5. In the right pane, select the users you want to restore and click Next. You can also use the search feature to find users.

    The Destination tab appears.

  6. Specify the required options and then click Next:

    1. In the Restore destination list, select OneDrive for Business.

    2. Beside User, click the Browse button, and then select the OneDrive user account you want to restore the chats to.

    3. Beside Folder, enter the destination path for the restored chats.

  7. Under the Options tab, configure options for chats or messages that already exist in the restore destination, select either of the following:

    • To skip restoring chats or messages that already exist in the restore destination, select Skip.

    • To overwrite chats or messages that already exist in the restore destination, select Unconditionally overwrite.

  8. To include chats or messages that were recently deleted, under Advanced options, select Include deleted items.

  9. Under the Review tab, review your options and then click Submit.

    The Summary tab appears.

  10. Click Close.
