You can rebuild the Metallic backup gateway server in on-premises environments following a system crash or during migration to a new system.
Before You Begin
-
The replacement system must have equal or higher hardware configuration compared to the original gateway.
-
Use the same hostname as the original gateway server.
Procedure
-
Install and configure a new system to replace the failed or decommissioned backup gateway. Refer Protecting On-Premises Data Sources Using a Backup Gateway for platform-specific deployment steps for Windows or Linux.
-
Register the new backup gateway and ensure that the gateway appears online in the Metallic console.
-
Open a priority support ticket with Metallic Support to begin the recovery of:
-
The offline deduplication database
-
The associated mount path on the storage target
-
What to Do Next
-
After recovery, ensure the disk or cloud storage library used by the new gateway server is in online status.
-
Execute a restore operation to confirm that existing backup data is accessible and recoverable.
-
Run a backup job to validate the data path to the libraries through the new gateway.
