Rebuilding the Metallic Backup Gateway Server for On-Premises Data Centers

You can rebuild the Metallic backup gateway server in on-premises environments following a system crash or during migration to a new system.

Before You Begin

  • The replacement system must have equal or higher hardware configuration compared to the original gateway.

  • Use the same hostname as the original gateway server.

Procedure

  1. Install and configure a new system to replace the failed or decommissioned backup gateway. Refer Protecting On-Premises Data Sources Using a Backup Gateway for platform-specific deployment steps for Windows or Linux.

  2. Register the new backup gateway and ensure that the gateway appears online in the Metallic console.

  3. Open a priority support ticket with Metallic Support to begin the recovery of:

    • The offline deduplication database

    • The associated mount path on the storage target

What to Do Next

  • After recovery, ensure the disk or cloud storage library used by the new gateway server is in online status.

  • Execute a restore operation to confirm that existing backup data is accessible and recoverable.

  • Run a backup job to validate the data path to the libraries through the new gateway.
