Configure Azure Files Backups Using a Backup Gateway

You can use a guided setup to configure backups for Azure Files that cannot be accessed via a public endpoint. This method requires installing a Commvault Cloud backup gateway adjacent to your Azure Blob Storage.

Before You Begin

You must have credentials to log on to the Azure portal.

Procedure

1. From the Commvault Cloud navigation pane, go to Service Catalog.

   The Service Catalog page appears.

2. On the Object Storage tile, click Configure.

   The Select an Object Storage Application page appears.

3. Click Azure File, and then click NEXT.

   The Azure File storage service backup model overview page appears.

4. Select Back up using the gateways, and then click NEXT.

   The Region page appears.

5. Select the region where the Azure Blob Storage is located, and then click NEXT.

   Note

   When you select a region on this page of the configuration wizard, the Commvault Cloud software filters the cloud storage and Azure resources that you can select on subsequent pages to those in the selected region. This filtering prevents traffic across regions, which can slow performance and increase costs.

   The Select The Backup Gateway page appears.

6. To specify one or more backup gateways, do one of the following:

   • From the list of backup gateways available for the region you selected, select one or more backup gateways.

   • Add a new backup gateway, click the refresh icon to refresh the backup gateway list, and then select the backup gateway.

   For the backup gateway, if the Enabled from selected virtual networks and IP addresses option is selected in the Security + networking > Networking settings, and if it has a private endpoint enabled for a service, then add the backup gateway's VNet/Subnet as one of the allowed virtual network entries.

   • To configure a virtual network rule for your storage account, do the following:

     1. Move the Enable access to the VNet firewall rule toggle key to the right.

     2. Copy either the Azure CLI command or the Azure PowerShell command.

     3. Modify the command to specify your Azure subscription ID. This might be the same subscription ID that you specified when deploying your Commvault Azure application.

     4. Run the command.

        The VNets of the selected region are added to the allowlist.

7. Click NEXT.

   The Configure Cloud Storage For Added Protection page appears.

8. For Storage location, select an existing cloud storage location or create a new storage location for the primary copy.

   If you create a new storage location, click the refresh button and select the location.

9. To store a secondary copy, move the Secondary copy toggle key to the right, and then select the location for the secondary copy.

10. Click NEXT.

    The Select a Plan page appears.

11. Select an existing plan or create a new plan.

    If you create a new plan, click the refresh button and select the plan.

12. Click NEXT.

    The Add Object Storage page appears.

13. Add an Azure Storage account to back up.

14. Click NEXT.

    The Backup Content page appears and displays the content to be backed up.

15. You can add content by browsing, by selecting all the content, and by entering a custom path.

    1. To select all content, click Add, and then select Select All.

    2. To browse for content, do the following:

       1. Click Add, and then select Browse.

       The Add content dialog box appears.

       1. Select the content.

       2. Click Save.

    3. To enter a custom path, do the following:

       1. Click Add, and then select Custom Path.

       2. In Enter custom path, enter the custom path for the content.

       For example, you can enter /bucket_name.

    4. To exclude some of the content you selected, move the Specify exclusion toggle key to the right, and then add the exclusion.

    5. To include some of the content that you excluded, move the Specify inclusion toggle key to the right, and then add the inclusion.

16. Click NEXT.

    The system displays a summary page.

17. Click FINISH.
