You can restore files and folders from a backup of an Azure VM.
Considerations
-
Use different VM groups for UNIX and Windows VMs. You cannot browse and restore files for both operating systems in the same job.

Live browse and restore is not supported for the following:
-
VMs that are encrypted with either volume or disk encryption
-
OS disks of confidential VMs
-

For a Windows guest VMs with storage spaces, you must use a Windows VSA access node and Backup Gateway that run on same version or a later version as follows:
-
The access node and Backup Gateway that are used for the live browse must be running on Windows Server 2016 or later.

You cannot simultaneously browse two cloned VMs that use the same storage space information.

Prerequisites
-
If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.

At least one VM in your environment must have the file system agent. For more information about deploying the file system agent, see Linux and Windows File Servers.
Procedure

From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.
The Overview page appears.

On the Virtual machines tab, in the row for the VM that contains the guest files, click the action button
, and then select Restore.
The Select restore type page appears.

Select Guest files.
The Restore page appears.

To select a different MediaAgent or source copy for the restore, or to switch to live browse mode, do the following:
-
If you intend to switch to live browse mode, in the left column, you must click a folder in order for the Browse from media toggle key to be displayed in the Change source dialog box.

In the upper-right area of the page, click Change source.
The Change source dialog box appears.

To switch to live browse mode (browsing from media), move the Browse from media toggle key to the right.

To select a specific source and/or MediaAgent for the restore, do the following:

Restore from copy: Select one of the following:
-
Automatic (default): The software searches for the requested data in the primary copy. If the data is not found in the primary copy, the software selects a secondary or auxiliary copy.

Primary: The software searches for the requested data in the primary copy.
-
Snap copy: The software searches for the requested data in the snap copy.
-

MediaAgent: Select the MediaAgent that performed the backup.
-

Click OK.

Select the files to restore, and then click Restore.
The Restore options dialog box appears.

Specify the destination to restore the recovered files to.
-
To restore in place, do not change the value in the Destination client list.

To restore to a different location, do the following:
-
Change the value in the Destination client box.
Note
Only access nodes that have the file system agent installed are available to select.

To use the Impersonate user option, enter the credentials for a user that has permissions to create files in the destination path on the destination client.
By default, the local system account on the destination client is used to perform the restore operation.

For the Destination path box, enter a full path or click Browse to select a destination folder.

To delete an existing file and replace it with the restored file, select Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists.

Click Submit.
