Protecting Azure Virtual Machines with Commvault

Commvault Cloud provides enterprise-grade data protection for Azure VMs, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient backup and recovery across your cloud environment.

  • Backup process: Commvault Cloud leverages native Azure APIs to orchestrate consistent VM-level backups. It captures snapshots of managed disks and/or restore points, with optional application-aware processing to ensure transactional consistency.

  • Operational efficiency: Changed data blocks are efficiently transferred to Commvault Cloud storage repositories, optimizing bandwidth and storage usage. Also, Commvault Cloud can dynamically provision temporary compute resources in Azure, called auto-scaled access nodes, which are automatically decommissioned after use, minimizing infrastructure overhead while maintaining high performance.

  • Robust data protection: Commvault Cloud can protect Azure VM resources across subscriptions and regions, including snapshot management. This enables robust disaster recovery and compliance with data residency requirements.

  • Recovery options: Commvault Cloud supports a wide range of recovery scenarios for Azure VMs:

    • Granular file and folder recovery.

    • Full disk or volume restores for targeted recovery.

    • Complete VM restores to the original or alternate destinations, including other Azure regions.

    • For advanced use cases, you can deploy in-guest agents to enable direct-to-host restores or application-specific recovery workflows.
