Configure Azure MySQL Server Database Backups Using a Backup Gateway

You can use a guided setup to configure database backups for MySQL Server Database that cannot be accessed via a public endpoint. This method requires installing a Commvault Cloud backup gateway adjacent to your Azure databases.

Important

The Commvault Cloud software supports Azure for public clouds only. Sovereign clouds, such as in Germany or China, are not supported. For more information, go to Azure Regions Decision Guide on the Microsoft documentation website.

Before You Begin

  • You must have credentials to log on to the Azure portal.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Service Catalog.

    The Service Catalog page appears.

  2. On the Database tile, click Configure.

    The Select a Database Application page appears.

  3. Click Microsoft Azure.

    The Database Trial page appears.

  4. Click CONTINUE.

    The Select a Database Service page appears.

  5. Select the database service, and then click NEXT.

    The Select Backup Method page appears.

  6. Select Backup via gateway, and then click NEXT.

    The Region page appears.

  7. Select the region where the Azure database is located, and then click NEXT.

    The Select The Backup Gateway page appears.

  8. To specify one or more backup gateways, do one of the following:

    • From the list of backup gateways available for the region you selected, select one or more backup gateways.

    • Add a new backup gateway, click the refresh icon to refresh the backup gateway list, and then select the backup gateway.

  9. Click NEXT.

    The Configure Cloud Storage For Added Protection page appears.

  10. For Storage location, select an existing cloud storage location or create a new storage location for the primary copy.

    If you create a new storage location, click the refresh button and select the location.

  11. To store a secondary copy, move the Secondary copy toggle key to the right, and then select the location for the secondary copy.

  12. Click NEXT.

    The Select a Plan page appears.

  13. Select an existing backup plan or create a new backup plan.

    If you create a new backup plan, click the refresh button and select the backup plan.

  14. Click NEXT.

    The Cloud Account window appears.

  15. Select an existing cloud account or create a new cloud account.

    If you create a new cloud account, click the refresh button and select the cloud account.

  16. Click NEXT.

    The Cloud Database Instance Details page appears.

  17. In the Instance name box, enter a name for the instance.

  18. Under the Connection details, enter the following details:

    • From the Credential list, select a saved credential or add a new credential.

    • Maintenance DB: Enter the name of the system database.

    • Endpoint: Enter the endpoint that you use to connect to the database. The endpoint includes the DNS name or the IP address, a colon, and the port number. For MySQL example, you can enter db.example.eu-central-1.abc.Azure.com:5432.

  19. Click NEXT.

    The Backup Content page appears and displays the content to be backed up.

  20. You can either add the MySQL database instance manually or enable rule based discovery for automatic discovery of instances that are required to be added.

  21. If you want to discover the MySQL database instance manually, proceed as follows:

    1. From the Instance name list, select an instance.

    2. Under the Connection details section, section, enter the following details:

      1. From the Credential list, select a saved credential. You can also add a new credential.

      2. In the Maintenance DB box, type the name of the system database that is used as the maintenance database.

      3. In the Endpoint box, type the name of the endpoint to connect to the database instance.

  22. Click Next.

  23. The Summary section displays the summary of instance configuration.
