The following prerequisites are required to add additional nodes:
Existing Node Requirements
Check the following minimum required versions in your existing setup and make sure to upgrade the versions where needed.
-
CommServe Server Version
View the CommServe server version to ensure that Maintenance Release 11.24.69 (or later) is available.
If the CommServe server is in an earlier version, update the software to the latest maintenance release version as described in Updating Commvault Software on a Server.
-
HyperScale X MediaAgents Version
View the version for the HyperScale X MediaAgents associated with the storage pool in which you plan to add the new nodes to make sure that Maintenance Release 11.24.69 (or later) is available.
Verify and ensure that all the MediaAgents in the storage pool have the same software version.
If one or more MediaAgent is in an earlier version, update the software to the latest maintenance release version as described in Updating Commvault Software on a Server.
-
HyperScale X Platform Version
View the HyperScale X platform version in the existing nodes to make sure that HyperScale X Platform Version 2.2208 (or later) is available.
If one or more nodes is in an earlier version, install the OS updates as described in Installing Operating System Updates on Existing Nodes.
Verify and ensure that all the nodes in the storage pool have the same platform version.
New Node Requirements
Consider the following before adding new nodes:
-
New nodes must be identical to the existing nodes in the storage pool, with the same drive count and drive size.
Mixing of certified hardware vendors or server generations is supported provided the same drive count and drive size is maintained.
-
A maximum of 12 nodes can be added to an existing storage pool.

New Node Setup
Setup the hardware in the new nodes using the following information:
-
Racking the Hardware
Rack the new HyperScale X Appliance nodes to properly mount and secure the hardware.
For more information, see Racking the Hardware.
-
Determine the network configuration in your existing setup
You must setup the new nodes using the same topology that was originally used in your existing setup. Check your existing network configuration to understand the network topology used in the existing nodes.
For more information about the supported topologies, see Determining the Network Topology
-
Setup the DNS
Setup the necessary DNS records for the new nodes.
For more information, see Setting Up the DNS.
-
Setup the Switches
Ensure that the switch configurations are in place depending on the network topology in your environment.
For more information, see Setting Up the Switches.
-
Setup the IPMI
Power on the new nodes and setup the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) port.
For more information, see Setting up a Static IP For Intelligent Platform Management Interface.
-
Verify HyperScale X Image Version
Check the HyperScale X image version on the new node to ensure that the the image version is Hyperscale ISO 2.2212.
If the image in the node is in an earlier version, you can add the node using one of the following methods:
-
Re-image the new nodes with the most recent version, and then add the new nodes.
For more information, see Re-Imaging HyperScale X Appliance .
-
Alternatively, you can use a workflow to add the nodes.
For more information, see Adding Nodes.
-
-
Obtain the CommServe server credentials
Obtain the necessary credentials to connect to existing CommServe server.
For more information, see Connecting to an Existing CommServe Server.
