Using Microsoft Authenticator to Generate PINs

You can use the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app to generate a unique 6-digit PIN, which is required when two-factor authentication (which is a form of multi-factor authentication) is enabled in the Commvault MSP Portal.

Before You Begin

  • Find your secret key and QR code. These were emailed to you when you first tried to acquire a PIN. For more information, see Acquiring a PIN.

  • Install Microsoft Authenticator on a mobile device that uses one of the following operating systems:

    • Android 2.2 or a more recent release

    • Apple iOS 7.0 or a more recent release

Procedure

  1. Open Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device.

  2. Tap +.

    The Add account screen appears.

  3. Tap Other (Google, Facebook, etc.).

  4. If a prompt appears asking to allow the app to take pictures and to record video, tap Allow.

  5. Scan the QR code. If you are unable to scan the QR code, perform the following steps:

    • Tap Or enter code manually.

    • In the Account name field, enter a display name for your account (for example, "Commvault" or the name of your Commvault Cloud account).

    • In the Secret key field, enter the secret key.

  6. Tap Finish.

  7. To add more accounts to Microsoft Authenticator, repeat Step 2 through Step 6, above. Note that each account needs its own secret key.
