Using Google Authenticator to Generate PINs

You can use the Google Authenticator mobile app to generate a unique 6-digit PIN, which is required when two-factor authentication (which is a form of multi-factor authentication) is enabled in the Commvault MSP Portal.

Before You Begin

  • Find your secret key. The secret key was emailed to you when you first tried to acquire a PIN. For more information, see Acquiring a PIN.

  • Install Google Authenticator on a mobile device that uses one of the following operating systems:

    • Android 2.2 or a more recent release

    • Apple iOS 7.0 or a more recent release

Procedure

  1. Open Google Authenticator on your mobile device.

  2. Tap +.

  3. Tap Enter a setup key.

The Enter account details screen appears.

  4. Enter the following details:

    • In the Account field, enter a name for the account (for example, "Commvault" or the name of your Commvault Cloud account).

    • In the Key field, enter the secret key.

    • In the drop-down list, select Time based.

  5. Tap Add.

  6. To add more accounts to Google Authenticator, repeat Step 2 through Step 4, above. Note that each account needs its own secret key.
