Upgrading Commvault Cloud Software On Demand

Metallic will typically upgrade your software automatically without any impact to your backups. However, there may be cases when you would like to upgrade the Commvault Cloud software component on-demand.

The upgrade process must be performed in the following order:

  • Backup Gateway
  • HyperScale X nodes
  • File System, Database and Active Director Agents or Laptops

Before You Begin

Verify that the Backup Gateway and the servers/laptops have access to the internet.

Procedure

Upgrading a Backup Gateway

The Backup Gateway performs the role of a MediaAgent and Virtual Server. To manually update the Backup Gateway software, complete the following steps:

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > MediaAgents.

    The MediaAgents page appears.

  2. In the Name column, click the Backup Gateway that you want to upgrade.

    The Backup Gateway page appears.

  3. In the Control section, to turn-on the maintenance mode, move the Maintenance mode toggle key to the right.

  4. In the upper-right area of the page, click the action button action_button, and then click Upgrade software.

    The Confirm software update dialog box appears.

  5. To allow the server to reboot if required during installation, move the Reboot if required toggle key to the right.

  6. Click Yes.

  7. After upgrade, to turn-off the maintenance mode, move the Maintenance mode toggle key to the left.

Upgrading Servers and Laptops

To upgrade servers, complete the following steps:

  1. Create a Server Group and include the servers to be upgraded.
  2. Create a Blackout Window for the Server Group.
  3. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Server groups.

    The Server groups page appears.

  4. For the server group that you want to upgrade, click the action button action_button, and then click Upgrade software.

    The Confirm software upgrade dialog box appears.

  5. To allow the server to reboot if required during installation, select the Reboot if required check box.

  6. Click Yes.
