Updating Backup Content on a Laptop Plan

You can change what is backed up on user laptops and desktops.

By default, the following content is included or excluded when a laptop or desktop is backed up:

Included Entities (for Windows, Mac, and Linux)

  • Documents folder

  • User setting components

  • Temporary Files

  • C:\Program Files

  • Executable

  • OneDrive

  • Disk images

  • Executable

  • Temporary files

  • /Library

  • Files in the Library folder

  • OneDrive

  • Disk images

  • Executable

  • Temporary files

Note

  • Configuring backup with All content ('/' or '\\') for a full system backup is not supported.

  • The default excluded entities cannot be removed from the Metallic console.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Laptops.

    The Laptops page appears.

  2. On the Overview tab, in the top right corner, click actions Actions_dotted_button_black > Edit backup content.

    The Select a plan to edit the backup content dialog box appears.

  3. From the Select an existing laptop plan list, select a plan.

    The Edit backup content dialog box appears.

  4. On the Windows, Mac, or UNIX tab, beside Content to backup, click Add.

    The Add content dialog box appears.

  5. Browse for content to back up, or click Add custom content to type a path or pattern.

    For example, type *.docx to back up all files with the docx extension.

  6. Click SAVE.

  7. To exclude some content from the content you are backing up, next to Exclude - files/folders/patterns, click ADD.

  8. Repeat these steps until content is added for each operating system that you want the plan to support.

  9. Click SAVE.
