You can search for email messages and files by using keywords, filters, and saved searches. The search results can be exported to several file formats.
Before You Begin
As an MSP admin, ensure that the system created Compliance role is assigned to the Compliance officer (Compliance user) who wants to run searches in the Compliance search page using the following method:

If the Compliance Search User Group is already available for your Company, assign the Compliance user to the Compliance Search User Group. For information on how to add users to a user group, see Managing User Group Membership.
If the Compliance Search User Group is not available for your Company, create a Compliance Search User Group and then assign the Compliance user to the newly created Compliance Search User Group. For more information on how to create a user group, see Create user group.

Associate the Compliance Search User Group with the Compliance role to the Office 365 client. For more information on associating the user group to the Office 365 client, see:
Procedure

From the navigation pane, go to Data Insights.
The Data Insights page appears.

Under eDiscovery /& Compliance, click Compliance search.
The Compliance search page appears.

In the upper-left area of the page, from the list, select one of the following data types:

Email

To set a default value for searching email messages, files, or both, do the following:

On the Configuration tab, click Edit.
The Preference dialog box appears.

From the Default search view list, select Email, Email, File, or File.
