Performing an Unplanned Failover for a Replication Group

You can perform an unplanned failover operation for an entire replication group to make the destination VMs active in an emergency situation. Only VMs that are eligible fail over. You can perform a replication group failback operation to return replication operations to all source sites in the replication group.

Before You Begin

Create a replication group.

Procedure

1. From the navigation pane, go to Auto recovery > Replication groups.

   The Replication groups page appears.

2. Click the replication group.

   The replication group page appears.

3. On the Overview tab, in the upper-right area, click the Failover button, and then select Unplanned failover.

   The Unplanned failover dialog box appears.

4. Click Yes.

Results

• Source VMs are stopped.

• Performs replication.

• Replication is disabled for the VMs that failed over.

• The destination VMs are powered on.
