End of Support for Windows 2012 and 2012 R2

Microsoft has ended mainstream support for the following Windows 2012 and 2012 R2 workloads:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 (including Core Edition)

  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (including Core Edition)

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (including Core Edition)

  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 (including Core Edition)

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Restore from Deduplicated Volumes

Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016, and Windows Server 2019 have a deduplication feature that can be enabled. Data, including the Windows deduplication data, from deduplicated volumes is backed up in its original state (uncompressed). Before performing a restore, verify that there is enough storage space on the volume to restore the full data size.
