Linux Access Node Support for VMware

You can deploy a Linux access node for VMware. The access node can be used for replication of VMware virtual machines.

Considerations

  • A Linux access node for VMware can be used for snapshot operations with the following storage arrays:

    • Cisco HyperFlex

    • Dell EMC SC-Series (DSM)

    • Hitachi Vantara using one of the following snapshot engines:

      • Hitachi Shadow Image (CCI)

      • Hitachi Thin Image (CCI)

      • Hitachi Targetless Snap (CCI)

    • HPE 3PAR StoreServ

    • HPE Nimble Storage

    • IBM SVC

    • INFINIDAT

    • NetApp

    • NetApp SolidFire

    • Pure Storage FlashArray

    • Virtual Server Agent Snap (software snapshot engine)

  • Linux access node support for VMware is enabled by default for the HyperScale 1.5 Appliance. For the HyperScale 1.5 Appliance, you do not need to enable support or configure an access node.

Procedure

  1. Download the Access Node and Backup Gateway package from the Commvault Store.

This package provides an OVA template that is preconfigured with the Virtual Server Agent, Backup Gateway, and the Mono framework.

  2. In vSphere, deploy the OVA template and configure the Linux machine as an access node.

  3. To reconfigure the access node, go to access node > Virtual Server.

  4. Perform a remote install of all currently available Commvault Cloud feature release maintenance releases on the Linux machine.
