Getting Started with Azure SQL Database

Complete the necessary setup for backing up Azure SQL databases.

Procedure

1. Verify that your environment meets the system requirements for Azure SQL databases:

   • System requirements for backups using a backup gateway

   Note

   In this topic, the backup gateway functions as an access node.

   • System requirements for backups using the Commvault Cloud Infrastructure

2. Configure access to Azure resources.

3. Complete the database guided setup for Azure SQL server using any one of the following options:

   • Backup gateway: Configure Azure database backups using a tenant-owned backup gateway. Use this method when Azure SQL server databases cannot be accessed using a public endpoint.

   • Commvault Cloud Infrastructure: Configure Azure SQL server database backups using the Commvault Cloud infrastructure. Use this method when Azure SQL server databases can be accessed using a public endpoint.

4. Determine if you need to use the staging path export method to export a database instance.

5. Configure the Azure SQL purchasing model.

6. Perform a test backup and restore.
