Creating a Passkey for Restores

An owner of a server or virtual machine (VM) can create a passkey that can be used to perform restore operations. When a passkey is configured, the user performing a restore must enter the passkey to perform the operation.

Any user who has permissions for the server or VM can use the passkey.

A tenant administrator can create a passkey at the company level.

You must share the passkey with the users that need to restore backup data on client computers that belong to the company.

Note

A client owner can also enable a passkey for restores for their client computer. When both the client owner and tenant administrator enable a passkey for restores, the client owner passkey takes precedence over the tenant administrator passkey. Subsequently, the tenant administrator must enter the passkey created by the client owner to restore backup data.

Before You Begin

The user who configures the passkey for a server or VM must be assigned as an owner for the server or VM.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Companies.

    The Companies page appears.

  2. Click the company for which you want to configure a passkey for all its client computers.

  3. In the Passkey section, move the Require passkey for restores toggle key to the right.

    The Set passkey dialog box appears.

  4. Enter a new passkey in the Passkey and Confirm passkey fields, and then click Submit.

    The Confirm create passkey dialog box appears.

  5. Click Yes.

    The Authorize for restore toggle key appears.

  6. To enable a user to browse and restore backup data for 30 minutes after passkey authorization, move the Authorize for restore toggle key to the right.

    The Authorize for restore dialog box appears.

  7. In the Passkey field, enter the passkey, and then click Save.
