Configuring Backups for Cluster File Servers on Cloud

You can configure backups for a cluster file servers on cloud. The configuration wizard guides you through the configuration process, which includes creating any new entities that are needed, such as a backup plan and cloud storage.

Start the Configuration Wizard

  1. Log on to metallic.io.

    The Service Catalog page appears.

  2. On the Files tile, click Configure, and then click Cluster File Server.

    The Configure Cluster Backup page appears.

If you have already completed the initial setup, follow these steps:

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. On the Files tab, in the upper-right area of the page, click Add server.

The Configure File Server page of the configuration wizard appears.

  1. Select Cluster file server.

  2. Click Next.

    The Configure Cluster Backup page of the configuration wizard appears.

Specify the File Server Environment

  1. Select Cluster running in cloud VM, and then from the Vendor type list, select the vendor.

    An active trial or an active subscription is required.

  2. Click Next.

    The Region page of the configuration wizard appears.

  1. Select the region where the file server cluster is located.

  2. Click Next.

    The Plan page of the guided setup appears.

Plan

A backup plan specifies the storage to back up the data to and other settings such as recovery point objective (RPO) settings.

  1. Select an existing backup plan or create a new backup plan.

    Steps to create a backup plan
    1. Click the add button add/plus button - gray - no border.

      The Add plan dialog box appears.

    2. In the Plan name box, enter a descriptive name for the backup plan.

    3. For the backup plan settings, select pre-defined settings or create custom settings:

      • To select pre-defined settings, under Retention rules, select one of the following:

        • Select Standard retention to retain the incremental backups for 1 month.

        • Select Extended retention for optimized storage where the incremental backups of primary and secondary copies are retained for 1 month, and extended retention for monthly and yearly full backups.

          Note

          The Extended retention option is available only when the secondary copy backup is selected.

      • To create custom settings, select Custom plan, and then specify the following:

        • For Retention, specify the amount of time to retain the backup jobs.

        • For Retention monthly full (Secondary copy), specify the amount of time to retain the monthly full backup on secondary copy.

        • For Retention yearly full (Secondary copy), specify the amount of time to retain the yearly full backup on secondary copy.

        • For Backups run every, specify how often to run backups.

    4. Click Done.

  2. Click Next.

    The Cluster Configuration page of the configuration wizard appears.

Cluster Configuration

  1. In the Cluster client name box, enter a name for the cluster client.

    The client name must be unique.

  2. In the Cluster hostname box, enter the client access point.

    Note

    The host name must be unique and the same name must not be used by an existing client in your environment.

  3. For OS Type, specify the OS of the file server cluster.

  4. In the Job storage cache box, type the path for the job results directory.

    The job results directory stores the job results files that are created when a job is initiated.

    Note

    The job storage cache must reside on a shared cluster drive. The shared cluster drive must be associated with the Client Access Point that you specified in the Host name box.

  5. From the Nodes list, select the access nodes where the failover cluster is configured with the Commvault agent you installed.

  6. Optional: A node that is associated to the failover cluster might not be accessible at the time of configuration. Toggle the Force sync configuration on remote nodes key to right make the nodes accessible.

  7. Click Submit.
