Configuration of Protection for Amazon EC2 Instances with Commvault Cloud

To protect Amazon EC2 instances, configure backups and other settings in Commvault Cloud.

Commvault Terminology

The following terms are helpful to understand when configuring protection for Amazon EC2 instances:

  • Backup gateway (also called access node): Connects with, discovers, backs up, and restores your data source.

  • Hypervisor: Represents an AWS account. In a multi-account environment, data protection operations and resources can be shared (for example, from a shared services account hypervisor to member account hypervisors).

  • VM group: Uses auto-discovery rules and other methods to specify a set of Amazon EC2 instances that are backed up together using the same backup settings.
