Configuring Backups for Amazon DynamoDB Instances

To configure backups for Amazon DynamoDB Instances, complete the instance configuration using one of the following methods:

  • Commvault Cloud infrastructure: This method uses the Commvault Cloud hosted infrastructure to back up your Amazon DynamoDB. With this method, you can leverage EC2 instances provisioned and configured by Commvault Cloud as your access nodes, eliminating the requirement to configure your own infrastructure.

  • Backup gateway: This method requires installing your own backup gateway.

Considerations

Consider the following while configuring DynamoDB instances:

  • Backup and restore operations using S3 Export are region-specific as the S3 path provided cannot be cross-region.

  • The combination of Commvault Cloud cloud account, DynamoDB table region, and Commvault Cloud DynamoDB Instance must be unique. Therefore, ensure to configure one DynamoDB instance per region using a unique cloud account.

  • You cannot create multiple Commvault Cloud DynamoDB instances for a given region and cloud account. If there is a need to add multiple tables from the same region, instead of creating multiple instances, consider creating table groups in the existing Commvault Cloud DynamoDB Instance. For more information, see Creating a Table Group.

For example, if there is a cloud account 'A' in ap-south-2 region, you can create only one instance in that region. To add more tables from the same region, create a table group in the existing instance.

  • If you want to create a new DynamoDB instance in the same region, you must use a new cloud account.
