Alerts

Alerts provide automatic notification about operations, such as failed jobs. Alerts are displayed on the Triggered Alerts page. Users defined in the alert definition receive an email notification when an alert is triggered.

Best Practices for Configuring Alerts

Alert configurations must be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organization. However, the following best practices can help ensure that alerts remain relevant, actionable, and easy to manage.

Assign alerts to the appropriate recipients

Ensure alerts are routed to individuals who are equipped to take the necessary action. Sending alerts to recipients who cannot respond may result in confusion or unnecessary escalations, particularly in environments with strict compliance requirements.

Keep alerts clear and actionable

Alerts must clearly communicate their purpose and provide enough information to guide recipients on what steps to take. Effectively configured alerts reduce miscommunication and enable faster, more efficient responses.

Classify alerts by severity level

Use consistent severity levels such as Critical, Warning, and Informational to help recipients quickly assess the urgency and prioritize their actions accordingly.

Set alert thresholds

When configuring alerts for performance or capacity, define thresholds that indicate real issues or early warning signs. Avoid setting thresholds too low, as this may result in excessive alerts during normal system fluctuations, reducing their overall effectiveness.

Minimize alert fatigue

Limit the number of alerts generated for low-priority or non-critical events. Excessive notifications can overwhelm recipients and cause critical alerts to be missed or ignored.

Review and refine alert configurations

Regularly review alert definitions and settings. Remove outdated alerts, adjust thresholds or conditions as needed, and ensure that recipient lists remain accurate.

Verify alert notification workflows

Test both individual alert conditions and the end-to-end notification workflow to confirm that alerts are triggered correctly and delivered to the intended recipients without failure.

Establish standard response procedures

For high-priority or frequently triggered alerts, define clear response procedures or initial troubleshooting actions to help recipients respond effectively.
