Adding Cryptocurrency Wallets to the Backup Content for a Laptop

You can add cryptocurrency desktop wallets to the backup content on Windows and Macintosh laptops. Metallic currently supports Bitcoin Core wallets.

You can back up Bitcoin Core wallet files(wallet.dat) in the data directory by using the moniker %CryptoWallet%.

The default location of the data directory for Bitcoin Core wallet is as follows:

  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Bitcoin

  • Macintosh: ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Laptops.

  2. On the Overview tab, click actions Actions_dotted_button_black > Edit backup content.

    The Select a plan to edit the backup content page appears.

  3. Select an existing plan or create a plan:

    • To select an existing plan, select Select an existing laptop plan, and then from the Laptop plan list, select the plan.

    • To create a plan, select Create a laptop plan.

  4. Click Next.

  5. In the Backup content section, click Edit.

  6. On the Windows, or Mac tab, beside Content to backup, click Add.

    The Add content dialog box appears.

  7. Click Add custom content, and then type the moniker %CryptoWallet%.

    Example

    • Windows: \%CryptoWallet%

    • Macintosh: /%CryptoWallet%

    You can also type full path to the wallet file of the Bitcoin Core application.

  8. Click Save.

  9. Repeat these steps until content is added for each operating system that you want the plan to support.

  10. Click Save.
