If you are setting a brand-new Commvault environment, a primary and standby CommServe server can be setup for high availability on two of the nodes while deploying the HyperScale X Appliance.
The primary CommServe server will be setup as a virtual machine (VM) on one of the HyperScale X Appliance nodes. A standby CommServe server will also be setup as a VM on another node.
All the nodes will be registered in the primary CommServe server.
This setup provides high availability for the CommServe, by keeping the standby CommServe server in sync with the primary, to provide the ability to quickly failover to the standby server in the event of a failure in the primary CommServe.
Important
If you plan to setup a HyperScale cluster with more than 6 nodes, then it is recommended to attach the HyperScale cluster to an external CommServe server, instead of deploying a built-in CommServe server, as follows:
-
If this is a brand new Commvault installation, setup an external CommServe server first. To setup an external CommServe server, see Quick Start Guide. For hardware requirements, see Hardware Specifications for the CommServe server.
-
Once the CommServe server is setup, the nodes can be attached to this pre-existing CommServe server. To attach the nodes, see Connecting to an existing CommServe server.
Requirements
You will require the following information to setup the primary CommServe server:
Primary CommServe hostname (FQDN) |
A fully qualified hostname (FQDN) for the primary CommServe server. |
IP Address |
IP address associated with the FQDN. |
Windows product key (for primary) |
Windows product key for setting up the primary CommServe server. The product key can be found on the top, front left side of each node. You can use the product key associated with any one of the nodes. See What's in the Box for more information. |
StandbyCommServe hostname (FQDN) |
A fully qualified hostname (FQDN) for the standby CommServe server. |
IP Address |
IP address associated with the FQDN. |
Windows product key |
Windows product key for setting up the standby CommServe server. The product key can be found on the top, front left side of each node. You can use the product key associated with any one of the nodes. See What's in the Box for more information. |
Password |
Password for the admin user to be used in both the primary and standby CommServe server. |
