You can use the Enable WORM Storage workflow to configure the WORM storage mode on disk libraries.
Note
Once applied, the WORM functionality is irreversible.
The workflow automates the following settings:
-
Enables WORM on the disk library.
-
Enables the WORM Copy option on all the associated storage policy copies of the selected storage pool.
-
For deduplication enabled storage pools, the seal frequency of the deduplication database (DDB) is set to the same number of days as that of retention in the associated storage pool, with a maximum of 365 days. For example, if the retention is set for 60 days in the dependant copies of the storage pool, the seal frequency for the DDB is also set to 60 days. For retention higher than 365 days, the seal frequency is set to 365 days.
Note
We recommend not to use extended retention on WORM-enabled storage pools.
Use this option with the following filers:
-
Data Domain (Retention Locks)
-
Dell EMC VNX / Celerra (File Level Retention)
-
Hitachi Vantara HCP (Atime Retention)
-
Huawei OceanProtect (HyperLock)
-
IBM Elastic Storage System (ESS)
-
NetApp (SnapLock)
Supported only for non-snap storage policy copies
-
Permabit (WORM Retention)
-
HPE StorageWorks X9000 6.0 Network Storage Systems
-
Fujitsu ETERNUS CS High End
-
NEC HYDRAstor (HYDRAlock)
-
Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale SmartLock - In addition to the setting to enable the WORM (write once read many) capability, use EnableIsilonSmartLock additional settings on the disk library MediaAgents to enable the Isilon's Smart Lock feature and to indicate that the mount path is hosted on the Isilon device. For more information on creating the additional setting, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.
Before You Begin
Configure the magnetic library in Commvault software as follows:
-
Configure a Disk Network Storage Pool for the disk library.
-
Create a storage policy using the storage pool, using one of the following options, depending on whether the disk library is configured with or without deduplication:
-
Create a Storage Policy with Global Deduplication for disk libraries with deduplication
-
Create a Storage Policy with Global Storage for disk libraries without deduplication
If you have multiple storage policies/copies created using the disk storage pool, make sure to set the same number of days as Retention in all the copies.
-
Procedure
-
Download the workflow Enable WORM Storage from the Commvault Store using the instructions in Download Workflows from Commvault Store.
-
From the CommCell Browser, go to Workflows.
-
Right-click Enable WORM Storage, and then click All Tasks > Deploy.
-
Right-click Enable WORM Storage again, and then click All Tasks > Execute.
The Enable WORM Storage Options dialog box appears.
-
Click OK.
The Select Storage Pool dialog box appears.
-
From the Storage Pool list, select the disk storage pool that you want to configure the WORM storage mode on.
-
Perform one of the following actions:
-
Click Continue to run the workflow.
-
Click Modify to modify the WORM lock days. By default, the WORM lock is set to twice the retention set at the storage pool.
The Modify WORM lock dialog box appears.
-
In the WORM Lock Days box, enter the number of days for the WORM lock.
-
Click Save.
-
Whether you continue to run the workflow or modify the WORM lock days, a message appears that warns you that WORM requires more storage capacity and it cannot be reversed after enabling.
-
-
Click Yes.
The Summary dialog box appears.
-
Click Submit.
The Enable WORM Storage workflow will be started and you can monitor the progress from the Job Controller window.
Once the workflow completes, an email alert will be generated and sent to the logged-in user, who ran the workflow.
-
If the workflow completes successfully, the alert includes details of the actions completed by the workflow.
-
If the workflow fails, then the alert contains the reason for the failure, and solutions to troubleshoot the issue.
-
Result
In the Library Properties (General) dialog box, the Hardware WORM option will be displayed as Enabled.
