Restoring a OneDrive for Business User to a Different Account (Out of Place)

You can restore the OneDrive for Business users to a different OneDrive account.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Office 365.

    The Office 365 Overview page appears.

  2. On the Apps tab, click the app.

    The Overview page of the app appears.

  3. On the Users tab, on the upper-right area of the page, click on Restore.

    The available Restore options tool appears.

  4. To restore individual users, select Restore users, and then click Next.

  5. Select the users for restore from the list and then click Next. You can also search for a file from the Search box.

    The Destination tab appears.

  6. Leave OneDrive for Business selected and under OneDrive account, select Restore the data to another location, specify the restore location, and then click Next.

    • To restore to a different user:

      1. Select Restore the data to another location.

      2. In the User box, click Browse, select a OneDrive account, and then click Submit.

      3. In the Folder box, click Browse, select a location, and then click Submit.

        By default, the user is restored in the root folder.

    • To restore to a different client:

      1. Move the Restore to a different client toggle to the right, and in the Destination client list, select a OneDrive for Business app.

      2. In the User box, click Browse, select a OneDrive account, and then click Submit.

      3. In the Folder box, click Browse, select a location, and then click Submit.

        By default, the user is restored in the root folder.

    The Options tab appears.

  7. Beside If the file exists, specify what to do with existing items:

    • To not overwrite existing items, select Skip.

    • To keep as a copy of the existing item, select Restore as a copy.

    • To overwrite existing items, select Unconditionally overwrite.

    If the original file is deleted from the OneDrive account, then the file is restored with its name. If the original file still exists, then the file is restored as a copy of the original file.

  8. Configure any of the additional options, and then click Next:

    • To avoid restoring file permissions, select Skip file permissions.

    • To include deleted items in the restore, select Include deleted items.

    The Review tab appears.

  9. Review your selections, and then click Submit.

    The Summary tab appears.

  10. Click Close.
