Installing the Metallic Backup Gateway On Premises (Windows)

To have a local copy of your backed-up data, you must install an on-premises Metallic Backup Gateway. You can configure local storage via a network location (recommended) or a local disk.

Before You Begin

• Review the system and hardware requirements.

Procedure

1. Go to the Hub.

2. In the upper-left area of the page, click the menu button , and then click a service.

   For example, to install a backup gateway for an Oracle database, click Databases.

   The tab for the service that you selected appears.

3. In the upper-right corner of the page, from the New Configuration list, select a data source that supports local copies.

4. Perform the action needed for the data source that you selected, as follows:

   • If the How do you want to deploy your backup? page appears, click Backup via gateway (for on-prem servers), and then click Next.

   • If the deployment model overview page appears, click Next.

   The Select backup gateway page appears.

5. Click Add a new backup gateway.

6. Click Download.

   The backup gateway installer is downloaded. The file name of the installer is BackupGateway64.exe.

7. On the computer that will act as the backup gateway, run the installer as follows:

   1. Right-click BackupGateway64.exe, and then click Run as administrator.

      The Custom Package Manager dialog box appears.

   2. Extract the installation files.

      The Metallic installer opens, and the Installation Path screen appears.

   3. In the Installation Path field, enter the path to install the backup gateway (default path is C:\Program Files\Metallic\ContentStore) and then click Next.

      The Data Directory Path screen appears.

   4. In the Select data directory path field, enter the path on the dedicated data disk for the deduplication database, index cache, and job results folder.

      By default, a non OS drive with the largest available space is selected as the data directory path. For example, E:\Metallic\Data.

      Important: Metallic recommends using a separate data disk or virtual drives using a storage pool, as the data disk will be used for intensive I/O operations such as deduplication, job results, and index caching.

   5. Click Next to start the installation.

      After the software is installed, the Server Authentication dialog box appears.

   6. Click Enter Credentials, and then enter the credentials that you use to log on to the Metallic hub.

      Note: If you are an MFA enabled customer, when prompted, enter the authcode that was displayed on the download screen or go to Manage > Company to view the authcode.

   7. Click Next.

   8. Before leaving the installer, copy the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the backup gateway.

8. Return to the Select backup gateway page.

9. In the Backup gateway hostname box, enter the FQDN of the backup gateway.

10. Click Submit.

    The backup gateway registers with Metallic.

11. After the registration is complete, to continue configuring the data source, click Next.
