Subscription Usage for VMs and Kubernetes

Updated

You can view subscription usage for databases in the VM & Kubernetes Usage Report.

If a VM was protected for one or more days in the month, the VM is counted as part of the total VM usage. The VM is counted even if it is removed from a backup schedule or if backup data was deleted from the system. If the VM is not backed up in the following months, it is not counted as part of subscription usage for those months.

For example, if VM01 and VM02 are protected on the first day of the month, and VM01 is removed from the system later that month, the total number of VMs protected in the month is two VMs. If VM01 is not backed up in the following month and VM02 is backed up, the total number of VMs protected in the month is one VM.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, click Usage Summary.

The Usage Summary page appears, showing a summary of service subscriptions and their usage.

  2. Click VM & Kubernetes.

The VM & Kubernetes usage report appears.

  3. To view information for a specific time frame, click Time frame, and then select one of the time options.

VM & Kubernetes Usage Per Month

The VM & Kubernetes Usage Per Month chart displays total number of unique virtual machines protected. This chart updates when you select a time frame from the Time frame filter.

Monthly Usage

The Monthly Usage table displays monthly usage information for each instance. This table updates when you click a month bar in the VM & Kubernetes Usage Per Month chart.

Optional: Configure any of the following options to filter or export the Monthly Usage data:

  • To hide columns, click the Column button , un-select the columns that you want to hide, and then click Save.

  • To export data, click the Export button , select the export file format, and then save the file to your local computer.

Metering of VMs and Kubernetes Applications for Subscription Usage

  • If a VM is protected for one or more days in the month, then the VM is counted as part of the VM & Kubernetes - Standard Subscription usage. The VM is counted even if it is removed from a backup schedule or if backup data was deleted from the system. If the VM is not backed up in the following months, then it is not counted as part of VM & Kubernetes - Standard Subscription usage for those months.

For example, if VM01 and VM02 are protected on the first day of the month, and VM01 is removed from the system later that month, then the total number of VMs protected in the month is two. If VM01 is not backed up in the following month, and VM02 is backed up, then the total number of VMs protected in the month is one.

  • If a Kubernetes application was protected for one or more days in the month, then the application is counted as part of the VM & Kubernetes - Standard Subscription usage. The application is counted even if it is removed from a backup schedule or if backup data was deleted from the system. If the Kubernetes application is not backed up in the following months, then it is not counted as part of VM & Kubernetes - Standard Subscription usage for those months.

For example, if APP01 and APP02 are protected on the first day of the month, and APP01 is removed from the system later that month, then the total number of applications that are protected in the month is two. If APP01 is not backed up in the following month, and APP02 is backed up, then the total number of Kubernetes applications that are protected in the month is one.
