After you onboard a tenant, you can define the storage settings for the company. You can provide either shared or dedicated storage for the company, or you can allow the tenant administrator to configure the solutions and plans using the company's own storage infrastructure.
As a service provider, you can assign one of the following storage configurations to a company:
-
Rented storage configuration
-
Rented shared storage configuration
-
Rented dedicated storage configuration
-
-
Company-owned storage configuration
-
Rented and company-owned storage configuration
Rented Storage Configuration
In rented storage configurations, the company rents storage space from the service provider. The service provider defines solutions and assigns either shared or dedicated storage to the company.
Rented Shared Storage Configuration
In a rented shared storage configuration, the service provider creates a storage pool and plans for the company. The tenant administrator inherits the plan from the service provider and can add users or clients to the company.
When the service provider shares a plan, the tenant administrator can Derive and Create a new plan from the base plan.
Note
If the storage associated with a plan is not owned by the tenant, then the tenant might not have access to view the Aux copy jobs on the Job details page. In this scenario, the tenant can instead view the Aux copy jobs in the AuxCopy - Fallen Behind Storage Policies report.
Rented Dedicated Storage Configuration
In a rented dedicated storage configuration, the service provider creates a storage pool with Tenant admin role for the company. The tenant administrator can then create plans with the available rented storage.
To create a plan, the tenant administrator must have Tenant admin role on the storage pool that was shared by the service provider.
Company-Owned Storage Configuration
In a company-owned storage configuration, the tenant administrator configures a storage server, a storage pool, plans, and solutions for the company. The service provider does not assign storage or plans for the company.
After logging on to the Command Center, the tenant administrator creates the storage pool using their own cloud or on-premises disk library. To create the storage pool, the tenant administrator can use an existing MediaAgent that is shared with the tenant administrator by the service provider.
To share the MediaAgent, the service provider assigns the storage management permission to the tenant administrator on the MediaAgent computer from the CommCell Console. If the service provider does not share a MediaAgent, then the Commvault software prompts the tenant administrator with a link to download and install a MediaAgent.
The tenant administrator has master permissions on the MediaAgent and storage and can create new plans.
Rented and Company-Owned Storage Configuration (Hybrid Mode)
In a rented and company-owned storage configuration, tenant administrators can either rent the storage from the service provider or configure their own storage and plans for the company.
The tenant administrator can create plans based on the storage configuration.
