Performing a Start Over Operation

You can perform a start over operation on a storage pool. The operation automatically converts the next backup job to a full backup job for all the subclients, and recovers the data from widespread media corruption. The start over operation is applicable to all the storage policies (primary copies) and the secondary copies that are dependent on the storage pool.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Storage Resources > Storage Pools.

  2. Right-click the storage pool, and then click All Tasks > Start Over.

The Start Over dialog box appears. For a deduplicated storage pool, the message in the dialog box includes the statement: New deduplication baseline will be created requiring more storage.

  3. Click Continue to perform the operation.

The Enter Confirmation text dialog box appears. For a deduplicated storage pool, the message in the dialog box includes the statement: This operation will also seal the deduplication database.

  4. Type the text that is in quotation marks to confirm that you want to run the operation, and then click OK.

    The Information dialog box appears.

Results

The results of the operation depend on the type of storage pool that you performed the start over operation for, as follows:

  • If you selected a nondeduplicated storage pool, the software performs a full backup on all servers that are associated with the storage pool.

  • If you selected a deduplicated storage pool, the procedure seals the DDB and creates a new deduplication baseline. The new baseline requires more storage than the previous baseline.
