Reverting the SAP for Oracle Database to the Same Host

You can use the revert operation to bring the SAP for Oracle database back to the point in time when the IntelliSnap backup was taken. However, the log volume will not be reverted. Perform the revert operation on the same host where backup was performed. You can use the util_file, util_vol, or util_ vol_online interface to restore the control files, data files, and log files after you revert the data volume.

Note

  • You can perform the revert operation for point in time and current data.

  • The procedure will only work if all the logs required for recovery to the specified point in time, are on the snap copy. In other cases, you need to run the restore as following two jobs:

    • Revert the snap and restore logs from the same copy

    • Restore other necessary logs from another copy and recover the database

Before You Begin

Review the supported configurations for revert operation. For more information, see Revert for Storage Arrays.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > client > SAP for Oracle > instance.

  2. Right-click the instance, then go to All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

    The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Select Latest Backup, and then click View Content.

  4. Select the Data and Logs check boxes, and then click Recover All Selected.

    The SAP/Oracle Restore Options dialog box appears.

  5. Under Restore Options, select the Restore Control, Restore Archive Log, Restore Data, and Recover check boxes.

  6. Click Advanced.

    The SAP/Oracle Advanced Restore Options dialog box appears.

  7. Select the Use hardware revert capability if available check box.

    A warning dialog appears saying that the entire disk will be overwritten and the existing data will be lost.

  8. Click Yes.

  9. On the Options tab, do the following:

    1. Select the OpenDB and Switch Database Mode for Restore check boxes.

    2. From the Reset Logs list, select Yes.

    3. To restore from an offline backup or an online consistent backup, select the Reset Database check box.

  10. On the Recover tab, select Current Time or Point In Time.

  11. Click OK to close the SAP/Oracle Advanced Restore Options dialog box.

  12. Click OK to submit the revert restore operation.
